Adding tags to Flickr images helps the photos to come up in a viewer's search on any particular subject. Adding tags to your own images can be done in a number of ways, but there are fewer options for adding them to others' images. Read this article to learn how to use the options that are available for tagging others' images.

edit Steps1Sign in to your Flickr account. If you don't have one, create one. You can't add a tag unless you are signed in.2Go to the image or images that you wish to tag.3If you're taking the time to tag images, consider tagging the Creative Commons images. These are images that can be used with permission for a variety of purposes, including on wikis. Adding this tag will ensure the most use out of the added tags.4A Creative Commons image to be tagged A Creative Commons image to be taggedLook to the right of the image. You'll see "Tags (add a tag)".5Tag dialog box Tag dialog boxClick on '"Add a tag". You'll see a dialog box open up directly beneath the word "Tags".6Add your tag or tags. Ensure that the names you add are relevant and useful. You may wish to add tags for location, genre, personal characteristics, subjects seen in the picture, colors or type of media used.7If you add multiples, leave a space between each tag. If you add a phrase, put quotation marks around the phrase in order to make the phrase appear as a single tag. For example:"Red Flower""Children Playing""Golden Smile".

edit TipsYou can add tags in any language.Up to 75 tags can be applied per photo. In order to broaden the searchability of location, consider adding the state or province, if you can tell which city or town a photo is taken in. Abbreviations of locations may be helpful as well, for example, MA in addition to Massachusetts.
